What you will be working on (Job Description):

As part of Blackspoke, you will support the Data Center Service with installation, administration, management, configuration, testing, and integration tasks related to Fault and Performance tools. You will work independently as part of a small team of system engineers responsible for maintaining and improving a diverse IT infrastructure.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Administer and troubleshoot Linux platforms (e.g., RHEL, CentOS) for physical and virtual environments.
- Configure and deploy network and systems monitoring tools (e.g., SNMP, Nagios, Splunk, SolarWinds).
- Perform trend analysis to monitor system health, performance, and capacity utilization.
- Develop and maintain capacity metrics to optimize system performance.
- Execute software and firmware upgrades, patch installations, and functionality testing.
- Apply principles such as fault tolerance, high availability, scalability, and data recovery.
- Develop shell and Perl scripts for automation.
- Collaborate with application teams for system maintenance and patch management tasks.
- Maintain server configuration baselines and ensure compliance with established benchmarks.
- Create and maintain documentation, update standard operating procedures (SOPs), and brief stakeholders on tasks.
- Detect and respond to IT events, incidents, and outages using enterprise tool solutions.
- Ensure compliance with DoD standards for systems hardening.
- Apply vendor patches and address system security requirements.
- Coordinate with other service providers to support common areas of interest.
What you will bring to us (Required Skills):
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
- Experience: 2+ years of related systems engineering experience, including:
- Linux systems administration and troubleshooting.
- Advanced scripting skills (Perl, Python).
- Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).
- Experience with fault event rules development and performance threshold management.
- Certifications: Must hold 8570 IAT Level II certification (e.g., CNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, Sec+ CE, SSCP) within 90 days of hire.
- Proficient understanding of enterprise networks (load balancers, routers, switches, TCP/IP, DNS, AD, GPO).
Would be nice if you bring the following (Highly Desired):
- Experience with fault and performance management tools (e.g., CA eHealth).
- Familiarity with JIRA, Nagios, Python, Puppet, Ansible Tower, and/or ILOM.
- VMware ESX 6.0/6.5/6.7 experience.
- Experience with Windows System Administration.
